B.A. University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Music Education
Hello, I am Dré, a skilled professional, talented musician, and music teacher from Berlin, Worcester county, Md. I am a graduate of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Arts in Music Education, specifically in vocal and choral music. Teaching and music are my two biggest passions; I enjoy working with students, positively influencing them through these passions. It is my personal goal as an educator to help shape the minds of generations to come through the gift of music. I want to provide my students with positive avenues to explore in life whether it be through singing, playing instruments, producing music, or simply being able to appreciate music. I take pride in being a dedicated and committed educator and will continue to utilize my experiences to be the best teacher for my students.
I have gained experience throughout the years performing both solo and with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Concert Choir and alumni choir. I have performed state side in Washington, DC, Norfolk, Alexandria, Baltimore, Wilmington, various towns and cities in the greater Sussex county Delaware area, Wicomico county, Worcester county, at the opening of the Harriet Tubman museum in Dorchester county, New York city, New Jersey, and several more. Furthermore, I have performed abroad in Guadeloupe, French West Indies, Jamaica, Barbados, and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. I also have classroom experience, k-12, spending time at Parkside High School, Somerset Intermediate School, Greenwood Elementary School, and Pocomoke Middle School. I hope to add to my experience, teaching private lessons to motivate and enthusiastic students!
For all of my students, it is necessary to start from your level of understanding and talent. I use a variety of resources to tailor make a sequence of lessons that is relevant and will aide in building upon understandings and developing talent. I feel it is necessary to have an idea of the direction students would like to take, whether that be classical, pop, jazz, etc. and go from there. With this information I will compile appropriate repertoire and focus lesson plans in a way that will maximize growth in that direction.
My teaching style is rooted in comfort, understanding, and motivation. In order to conduct positive and meaningful lessons I believe that my student has to be comfortable with the atmosphere and what they will be learning. This will come through having any and every opportunity to ask questions and inquire about anything that is not clear or needs work. This goes hand in hand with student understanding. I want all of my students to understand that content that is being taught: I want everyone to feel free to bring any confusion to my attention so that I can fix it! Additionally, I am a motivator. Every student will start with a different level of understanding and will progress at their own pace. This is natural and completely expected. I am here to motivate every student and allow them to progress and improve at their pace with my guidance and instruction.
