I am trumpet player located in Columbia, SC who is passionate in both performing and teaching. I love having the opportunity to share music with others whether it be in an orchestra, jazz band, or teaching students. I am currently getting my BM degree in Music Education and Trumpet Performance from the University of South Carolina. I have studied with some of the finest teachers in America, both in a classical and jazz setting and enjoy performing and teaching both genres. I hope to be able to share my music with you!
I have been teaching in South Carolina for 6 years now. I began teaching trumpet lessons while in high school to other students. Upon starting college at USC, I added more students to my studio. I have taught beginners through advanced players, and have taught players as young as 10 and as old as 70! I have experience in classical and jazz trumpet, and can also help you with soloing. I am an active teacher in the community, working with several local middle and high schools teaching private lessons and masterclasses. Regardless of your age, it is never a bad time to begin learning an instrument and I hop you will let me help you on that journey!
I do not believe there is a one size fits all approach to learning the trumpet. When starting with a new student, it is my priority to get to know them, what their background is, and what their goals are. I can then create a customized routine and practice plan for them to help them achieve their goals. This is based around the styles of music they would like to learn, how much time they are able to practice on a weekly basis, and their current level of play. Some of my favorite methods and books to use are Arban, Clarke, Irons, Cichowicz, Stamp, etc. Whatever your goals and interests are, I can help find the right materials and routine for you to make practicing fun and efficient!
I tend to think I have a very personal style of teaching. No two students are the same, therefore I do not teach any two students the exact same way. I use a variety of books, methods, and exercises to help players overcome their individual weaknesses and improve as players. Some students may want to learn at a very relaxed place and play trumpet as a hobby, whereas others may want to be pushed harder to try to achieve a very high level of performance. My goal is to get to know each student as a person and their goals so I can best help them get where they want to go as a musician.
Drew is a fantastic player and makes practicing the trumpet fun. He helped me come up with a personalized practice routine to help me grow as a musician and trumpeter.
