I'm currently studying music at Western Connecticut State University.
Overview:
I am a music instructor born and raised in Connecticut. I have been playing music for ten years, both self-taught, and with lessons. My experience playing has led me to play in several local bands as well. I am currently going to Western Connecticut State University to get my Bachelor's degree in music, and to further my education. What brings me to Musika is the opportunity to teach the skills that I have acquired through years of playing and learning. With how much music has given to me, I would love to give back by teaching others how to play.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching music for two years now. It started when I gave friends lessons. This helped my discover my passion for teaching. Why I love teaching is because it allows me to help other people using a skill that I'm good at, which is music. I also like the creative challenge of teaching. Different students learn in unique ways, so sometimes the teacher needs to change their lessons around the student. The need to create and adapt will always be there for a teacher, and that excites me. I also love how I can bond with my students over a shared passion for music.
METHODS USED
For beginners, I teach them basic exercises and the fundamentals needed to play their instrument. Once they have that down, we can talk about what repertoire to learn. Then, I will teach them the songs they want to learn, as well as any techniques they are curious about. For an intermediate and higher level students, the direction of the lessons is more in their hands. I teach them whatever they want to learn, while also making suggestions for things that they can improve on. I keep the lessons interesting and fun, no matter what the experience level.
LESSON STYLE
I approach teaching with patience. When a student learns concepts and techniques for the first time, it might take a while to really get it down. By having a patient and calm aura, it helps the student to not get frustrated. In addition, each student learns at their own pace. Some might get it quicker that others and that's fine. It is important to be patient with them so that they can learn comfortably. I also make sure to acknowledge their accomplishments so that they feel good about the progress they are making and will continue to make.
