I am a native of Houston, Texas and a trumpet player. I attended Stephen F. Austin State University for my Bachelor's Degree, and afterwards I decided to move to Cincinnati to study with a few of the trumpet players in the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. I recently graduated from Miami University with a Master's Degree in Music Performance on trumpet. I am currently a freelance musician with 5KBrass and perform regularly in the Cincinnati area. I have experience in both orchestra and jazz settings and work to instill a knowledge of both in my students.
I began teaching lessons in Texas in 2012 and have been since. My first major success as a teacher came in 2015 when I had a trumpet student of mine make the Texas ATSSB All-State Jazz Band. In my lessons, I push a strong routine of consistent practice to help improve endurance and stamina. I also try to instill in my students a sense of patience that I believe will pay off in the long run. I work with my students to not only learn the instrument, but music as well. I strongly believe that any student has the potential to be the best.
In my lessons, I work hard to create a routine that best fits the students needs. This typically means that many of my students are not following a specific lesson plan or standard routine. Starting out, I stress fundamentals and warm-ups to help the students create a solid grasp of the instrument, before making the move towards solo repertoire. Of course, the older and more experience the student is will influence the difficulty of the routine, however, I always make sure that goals that I have set for a student are within reach.
It is my belief that anybody has the capacity to be successful at anything they want. As a teacher, I believe that it is not only my job to provide that knowledge that I required to be successful, but to also provide the inspiration for the students drive to be successful. Becoming a good musician, as with anything, takes time, and I always work to make sure that the student can see their progress. In my lessons, I always make sure that the student understands what needs work, so that I can provide them with the means to become better. I do this so that once they have gotten better, we can clearly see the path that led them there.
