I am a musician, composer, and teacher with nineteen years of experience. My primary instrument is the cello, but I have also performed on guitar, french horn, and euphonium. My teaching experience includes private lesson instruction. In addition, I worked for eight years as an assistant marching band technician for the Ponca City Instrumental Music Department. Currently, I am starting my third year at the Los Angeles Film School where I am obtaining a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Music Production.
I began teaching private cello lessons to beginner musicians at the age of fourteen. By the time I was eighteen, I was teaching intermediate-level musicians. I took a break from private teaching once I graduated from high school. This was so I could begin my job as an assistant marching band technician. At this job, I taught small groups the fundamentals of marching. In addition, I was responsible for teaching low brass and low woodwinds the music for their halftime show as well as all the pep tunes each year.
My primary focus is accommodating the learning style of my students, regardless of age and skill level. I incorporate visual, auditory, and physical teaching methods that target the specific needs of each student. I also consider the desires of each of my students. Not every student wants to achieve the same goals or play the same type of music. As far as curriculum is concerned, I focus on performance and music theory for both beginner and intermediate-level musicians. For performance, I work on posture, bow hold, scales and arpeggios, and musical expression. The music theory I teach consists of note reading, ear training, counting and time, key signatures, and more.
Instilling passion, determination, and drive in my students encapsulates my teaching style. I have been a competitive musician, performer, and teacher for years. I understand the blood, sweat, and tears that go into becoming a quality musician. I want to be an uplifter and cheerleader for all my students. On the other hand, I do not have the capacity to teach those who do not want to be taught. I will not accept students that do not have the desire to play their instruments. So, I urge parents to take that into consideration when signing their children up for my lessons.
