ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Berklee College Of Music, Drumset Performance University Of New Hampshire, Classical Percussion Performance

Awards:

2005-Present - My drumming is featured in the Guitar Hero and Rock Band video games. Performed as musical guest on national tv, full endorsement from Peace Drum Co., toured the U.S. a few times times with bands signed to major labels.

Overview:
I have been teaching drums and playing gigs since 1993. I've taught close to 20,000 drum lessons to hundreds of students. I've played on national tv, toured with several signed bands, endorsed drum and cymbal companies, and have been featured in video games. I've studied with the greatest drummers in the world while at Berklee College Of Music. Mike Mangini, Dave Elitch, Kenwood Dennard, Dave Dicenso, Gary Chaffee and others have given me the material I pass on to my students, while customizing every lesson for what my students need to learn that particular week. I have a method in place, but my lessons often take sudden detours when we need to work on a specific task (i.e. preparing for school band auditions) at the students request. Through my encouragement, my students play gigs, talent shows, in their school concerts, etc. Some are now professional drum teachers. I teach kids with special needs, adults, and professional musicians (drummers and nondrummers). My students' parents love me because I teach kids how to sharpen focus, increase attention span, listen intently, and memorize material more efficiently.
EXPERIENCE
Here's how many drum lessons I've taught: An average of 15 lessons per week times 50 weeks since 1993. 15 x 50 is 750 per year. 25 years of 750 lessons is 18,750, and I have fine-tuned my lesson plans all along the way. Between 2013-2018 I taught a minimum of 30 lessons weekly and had to employee an assistant (an advanced student) to teach my beginners. My students often see me for years. I have taught at Berklee College Of Music's Summer Percussion Festival, School Of Rock, IKnow Music, Join The Band, Santa Monica Music Center, Modern Music, Pop/Rock Academy, Pedrini School Of Music, Walpole Music, and Boston Music Co. I continue to take drum lessons while also getting some "real-world schooling" at LA's best jam sessions.
METHODS USED
We play the full drum set right away, at the first lesson. It is not necessary to own a drum set for 3-4 months, in which time students practice at home on couches or beds where pillows represent the different parts of the drum set. I can offer advice when it comes to equipment purchases. I have a method in place for my beginners: a combination of reading, technique and coordination exercises, jamming with favorite songs, and studying their favorite drummers. For my advanced and intermediate students, it is very easy for me to switch gears and explain the material that they bring to me. Some examples include preparing for college auditions, learning how to play their favorite songs, advice on joining a band, etc.
LESSON STYLE
Here's what I've learned from teaching thousands of drum lessons. I know what the very next step is for every student. I know what is just barely out of reach for them, and that becomes their assignment (or assignments) for the week. I can easily and accurately asses what they are capable of and I expect that from them. That is why they have to do push-ups when they don't complete the tasks. My students see me repeatedly for years and they know that I only ask them to do their best, and they recognize when they fall short. I talk to my kids like adults, and they respond maturely. They are aware that I have my own drumming goals and that their progress is NOT the absolute most important thing on my list. This keeps them motivated. My lessons are more demanding then other teachers, and although my methods seem tough, I am constantly surprised of the many invitations I get to my students' performances, plays, sports games, birthday parties, thanksgiving dinners, etc.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
