Music has been a passion of mine from age 6. I got my start playing the piano with friends trying to figure out the music from Super Mario 64. Not a day has gone by since then that I haven't picked up an instrument of some kind. It's been a goal of mine to learn as many instruments as possible throughout my life and focus on the instruments I love. I've been able to learn the piano, organ, all kinds of guitars, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, percussion instruments, and vocals.
I've been lucky enough to perform all over the U.S. and a lot of Europe by touring with different bands in high school, college, and independent touring groups. I've been teaching private lessons off and on for about 5 years now. It's been a goal of mine to learn as many instruments as possible throughout my life and focus on the instruments I love. I've been able to learn the piano, organ, all kinds of guitars, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, percussion instruments, and vocals.
My favorite part about teaching is teaching beginners. It's so much fun to introduce a brand new instrument to someone and show them all that learning music has to offer. I mainly focus on the basics of music, and music theory in order to give students the tools they need to teach themselves when I'm not around, or if lessons have to discontinue for some reason. Once the basics of music theory have been grasped, it makes learning the technical aspects of the new instrument much faster, and easier.
I've always believed that learning comes 50% from the teacher, and 50% from the student. I do teach through lesson books but I've always found that they're better used as a guide rather than the focus of every lesson. I like to give the students the freedom to learn what they want to learn. I've always been willing to go the extra mile for my students, not just show up every week and continue from page 20 to see how far we get in the lesson book. When students are able to learn their favorite songs, not just songs from a lesson book, it enhances their learning experience, keeps them looking forward to their lessons each week, and creates music habits that will last a lifetime.
Easton is a fantastic teacher who takes the time to structure the lessons specially to what you want to learn. He is exceptionally friendly and welcomes the student to contact him outside the scheduled lessons about techniques, or songs the student wants to learn for the next lesson. BLUF: I highly recommend Easton to anybody wanting to learn an instrument!
