Cleveland NJROTC: Semper Fidelis Wilberforce University: Most Dedicated
Overview:
After teaching myself theory at the age of 4, I received my first musical instruction in 6th grade. At that time I learned to play the flute. This is where my musicianship began to blossom and opportunities were sent my way. Thanks to my love and dedication, I was one of a few placed in special bands. Auditioning & being selected for choruses during this time increased as well. As a result of my hard work, I was offered & accepted the positions at section leader and Drum Majorette in my high school's concert and marching bands & after joining choir my junior year I became lead soloist of the choir. Continuing on to college, I attained my BA in Vocal Performance with the emphasis of Opera while holding the title of Lead Soloist of the University Choir.
EXPERIENCE
My first experience teaching music began immediately after graduation college and had continued to the present day. Originating as the music teacher at a girl's club the summer after my college graduation, my music profession soon began. There my eyes were opened to the benefits music has on children. This is also where I learned a lot about myself musically. While teaching music theory, choir & directing the summer musical started its cycle of my evolution here, this was only is beginning. I soon began to teach in school districts with larger numbers of classes & opportunities to have greater scaled productions. From these ashes my educational philosophy developed, which incorporates enjoyment, relationship building & expression of talent & student driven performance-based learning.
METHODS USED
It is very important for students to understand the theory associated with their teaching. Therefore, students are constantly quizzed to verify cognitive relation to newly learned information. If students can connect the science & skill of knowledge it is retained long term. This encourages the student to think and respond quicker. ...keeps them on their toes.
I teach for matey of information, therefore, I am always reviewing.
In addition, as the student learn, I also play along with them on most occasions. This allows me the opportunity to understand first hand where mistakes are being made & offer suggestions instantaneously.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style places emphasis on relationship building, knowledge grabbing and demonstration. Developing a relationship includes relatability, comfort & communication. Here humor is used. Smiles & laughs always lessens the stress & makes learning enjoyable. In addition, time-management and the setting of daily goals together encourages the info retention.
Verification of individualized overactive is emphasised within my teachings as well. It is highly important for students to demonstrate skills daily & throughout the session. Correcting mistakes a they come alleviate habitual accidents, so I will Allie time for self-guided corrections first.
