2014- Ecuadorian Government Universities of Excellence Scholarship
I am an Ecuadorian Musician and Educator who loves sharing the power, knowledge and magic of music. During the course of my career, I have had the opportunity to be involved in different steps of musical projects such as composing, recording, mixing, producing albums, playing and teaching. I am comfortable working with a team but I also have the ability to have an authoritative role when it is needed. I have the motivation, preparation and passion to work in any musical situation. I am seeking a challenging but rewarding teaching position, which is why I was naturally drawn to this exciting opportunity.
My teaching experience dates back to my early college years. I had the opportunity to teach several private lessons and group classes. In addition to my experience working with different projects covering genres from Latin and Caribbean music to Jazz and teaching several courses in Music Schools and Universities, I am a holder of M.M. in Jazz Studies from prestigious Steinhardt School of New York University. As noted in my description, I am Ecuadorian and my government awarded me a full scholarship to study in New York, where I had the pleasure to study with such jazz luminaries as John Scofield, Ari Hoenig, Jean-Michel Pilc,Gil Goldstein, Stefon Harris, among others.
I approach music education in a practical way, what I mean with this is that I teach songs that my students like so they enjoy what they are learning. I encourage them to listen different kinds of music too so they can understand what music really is about. For Beginners and Intermediate students, I teach them songs that the want to learn and then I relate this songs to music theory, I teach them how to practice and how to learn technical parts of the instruments from the songs that they like. For Advance students, I target specific goals for every class so they can feel how they are better musicians after every session.
In my opinion, love and art are the most beautiful human expressions and both of them merge in music. The music theory and technique are really important to achieve our musical goals, however, the most important thing is to have something to say and understand that music is a vehicle to express something beyond words. I teach my students to enjoy music and life through music and their instruments so they can be not just better musicians but good human beings. How I achieve this is listening music with them and playing along with the recordings that they like so they relate their improvement as musician with something real.
