Overview:
Edward is a lead tenor who has performed roles ranging from The Mayor, in "Bye, Bye, Birdie" to Adonis, in John Blow's baroque opera, "Venus & Adonis".  As a flutist, his repertoire ranges from early music to that of living and contemporary composers, and he has taught private students and classes at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp(MI), the Oberlin(OH) City Schools, the Avon(OH) Public Schools, and the Livonia(MI) Public Schools. He currently resides in Santa Fe, NM, where he performs regularly with De Profundis of Albuquerque (NM). He has extensive experience working with both flute, piano, and voice students of all ages.
EXPERIENCE
My forty years teaching experience in music camps, public schools, and private studios includes general music, music theory, conducting, vocal, and instrumental instruction; coaching classes and individuals. Besides holding a Masters Degree in Music, I studied solfege, theory, and chamber music abroad and concertized as a chamber musician and soloist. Formal introduction to vocal study began with Richard Miller and Howard Hatton at the Oberlin Conservatory, and continued with Frank Baker in Vermont, Donald Bryant in Michigan, and Billie Lynn Daniels(Mrs. Andrew Frierson)in NYC. Flute studies include the master classes of Jean-Pierre Rampal, Michel Debost, and Edward Powell and formal study with Keith Bryan, Robert Willoughby, Judith Bentley, and Frances Shelly. Orchestral experience includes work with the Ann Arbor Symphony, under Edward Szabo, the Ann Arbor Chamber Orchestra, under Carl Daehler, and the Vermont Symphony, under Alan Carter. In addition, I have performed with the Current and Modern Consort of Ann Arbor(MI), Inter-Arts Associates of Detroit(MI) , and the Point Counter Point Chamber Players in Vermont. In New Mexico, I performed with the, now defunct, Santa Fe Canticum Novum as instrumentalist and vocalist, and am currently a 23 year member of De Profundis of Albuquerque. I teach music privately in the Santa Fe/Albuquerque area.
METHODS USED
My supportive approach to teaching  begins with finding out where the student is in skill development and assessing the student's desire to learn or need for the subject matter, then assisting them, with materials and techniques, in learning the skills necessary for their chosen goals. For piano students several methods can be used: J.W.Schaum, John Thompson, Alfred Adult Course, etc. . For voice students, the Cocone, Vaccai, and Abt Methods can be applied. Flute student methods frequently employed are the Rubank Methods and The Wagner Elementary Method, with supplementary materials by Moyse, Taffanel-Gaubert, Karg,-Elert, and Hans Peter-Schmidt.
LESSON STYLE
I keep lessons tailored to each student's needs and skill level.  Students come to private music tutors for many reasons and some do not include a "passion" for the art , itself. Some wish to develop an appreciation for music to which they listen, to gain a greater knowledge of music literature, or to acquire skills for a passtime they find relaxing and enlightening. Occasional testing for retention of basic knowledge, plus technical examination for practical skill progress helps to keep the student on track with regards to his/her own goals.l

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
