I am a passionate trumpet player, composer, and teacher. Having just moved back to the Bay Area, I am excited to share everything that I have learned with my students! In 2018, I graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies. I have performed at notable venues such as the Blue Whale in Los Angeles, Yoshi's in Oakland, and The SFJAZZ Center. I have studied with Ambrose Akinmusire, Vince Mendoza, Mic Gillette, Louis Fasman, and Dann Zinn. Playing music has been such an influential part of my life and I hope to bring that joy to all my students!
I have about 1 year of teaching experience, but as a recent college graduate I believe that I have a lot to offer musically. I enjoy passing on the knowledge that I have gained throughout the years, and as someone who has studied with many incredible private teachers I think I now have a great deal to bring to the table for students of any level. I encourage consistent practice, as well as a strong emphasis on technique. I enjoy teaching different styles and welcome students of all ages to my studio!
In my lessons, I advocate for a strong emphasis on tone and technique. Getting these aspects of trumpet playing down are extremely important as the trumpet is a very physically demanding instrument. I have many different levels of method books to work from, but one of the biggest and most comprehensive is the Arban's book. It has exercises ranging from the most basic tone production, to very advanced tonguing and lip slur exercises and is great for students of all levels. Aside from this focus, I do my best to create unique lesson plans that will benefit each individual students needs.
Teaching music is one of the most rewarding experiences, and I thoroughly enjoy it. I believe that studying diverse styles of music is very important. I encourage my students to listen to all kinds of music outside of their own genre, as having different influences creates a more well rounded musician. Inspiration and motivation are huge factors when it comes to private teachers. I have been lucky enough to have studied with some of the most inspirational teachers in the world and I will do everything I can to pass on that inspiration to my students!
