2024 -Sandiego city college music and performing arts
I am a musician that is based in San Diego I taught students piano for 3 years I love teaching students fundamentals of music especially when it comes to playing certain genres on the piano. I started learning piano at 13 years old self taught and taught by professionals. My main performance is at church and local venues with some of my colleagues. Hopefully I can inspire you guys to try the piano but if your experience somewhat hopefully your inspired to learn major 9ths and 13ths plus sus chords
My teaching experience started online when I gave private lessons back in 2022 most of the student learned basic to intermediate but some wanted to learn advance.when it came to teaching advance they gave up easily even though I encourage them that advance skills don't come over night it takes practice practice and Practice!!! Most of them decided to not rush but build there skills day by day and it was fun for them. My main goal is for students to take the time and practice practice and practice even though they master the concept practice is always the life time thing.
For basic students from 6 to 14 even intermediates they will start by reading or learning how to read sheet music classical and traditional music but I also throw in a jazz piece for students to learn how to make they're playing more jazzy and colorful. But before all that music reading the most important thing is to learn your major and minor scales because in all keys because if you don't know your major and minor you won't be able to play your favorite songs without reading. Playing music on the piano without sheet music is something my future student will learn how to do even with ear training.once again practice practice practice . All of this requires practice. I have spent 7 hours a day even after school from 13 years old to now being on the piano. This is called commitment. I'll teach numbers once the student starts to learn how to build 7th,9ths,11th chords. Along with learning inversion which is re arrange notes in the chord scales.
My students must study at there own pace I don't agree with rushing student progress. In my experience of teaching I realized that students are different from each other some learn faster than others. If students don't understand a key or a chord I will show them an example by playing a specific chord or song piece. But also I will even practice with the student so they don't feel like they are being put in the spotlight by themselves. I don't not teach reading bass clefs because once students learn the number system they can use that to build the left hand chord 1'3'5 that's c ,e,g in the number system for the key of c it's easy.
