Hello! I am a friendly musical person who loves teaching and sharing the gift of music. I've been teaching for over three years now and love to help others grow in their pursuits. I recently just graduated from San Jacinto college, where I've had many master passes with great musicians such as Joseph Schenck and Victor Wooten. I specialize in jazz, but can also teach classical, blues, rock, pop, and composition. I am also good at musical arrangements, transpositioning, and music theory.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching for over three years now. I started teaching friends and family members in my home. My key points are musical technique and consistent practice. I try to teach music as a form of language, much like Victor Wooten teaches. The most important thing is keeping things interesting for both me and the student, while still preparing them for school performances and recitals. I am always excited to teach my students, as well as help them succeed in any endeavor they choose.
METHODS USED
Music is like a language all it's own, and I try to teach it similarly to how we naturally learn language. Growing up we don't learn by grammar and rules, but by listening to others. I make sure they are prepared with everything needed to play songs/pieces, as well as all that is needed for improvisation and solos. Then I begin starting them on reading and writing music, typically using a beginner method book such as essential elements.
LESSON STYLE
The best way to teach is to teach yourself all over again. I love to set realistic goals, while giving them a harder piece to juxtapose their progress. I never pressure them or bog them down with too much. Acknowledging their progress is always a great way to motivate them. I like to find things that inspire my students and push them in that direction, guiding them enthusiastically along the way.
