I am a very passionate musician and instructor who loves working with students of all ages and ability to help achieve their goals and spread the joy of playing music. I have been playing guitar since I was 6 years old (25 years) starting with classical and through the years delving deep into jazz, blues, rock, funk, soul, pop, fusion, and improv. I have been performing and teaching professionally since college and have had the incredible opportunity of traveling and playing all over the country with multiple touring bands. My favorite thing is being able to share my love of music with people through performing and teaching, and guiding students as they manifest their musical dreams into reality.
I began teaching students in college, and have consistently taught students of all ages and experience levels. I love being able to help new students along their path to becoming the musician they want to be. I focus my lessons on the student’s musical interests and apply music theory and proper technique instruction to help them reach their goals. As someone who loves learning themselves, I also love passing knowledge on to new students and instilling a love of learning that will take them to the level of musicianship that they want to achieve.
For very beginners, I will typically start with a basic method book, such as Hal Leonard to learn the essentials of basic technique. For adults or students with more experience, I will cater my lessons specifically to each students interests and goals as I find that this is the best way to keep students engaged and excited to learn. I teach music theory along with anything we learn in a lesson so the student can apply it to material they are already familiar with and interested in. Most of all, my goal is to keep lessons engaging and fun so as to inspire students of any ability level to keep playing and learning.
It is incredibly rewarding to see my students develop a love of playing music. This is why I approach each individual student with a unique lesson plan to help them thrive. I focus these lessons on my student’s musical interests while keeping the lessons fun and interesting. I think it’s very important to teach my students proper practice techniques so they can continue to learn for themselves in between lessons. I work with each of my students to set reachable goals so they can see their own progress. I find this is a great way to keep students inspired and engaged along their musical journey!
