I am a passionate, empathic and patient teacher who has a life long passion for music and composition. I graduated New England Conservatory in Jazz Piano Performance in 2001. I've had the chance to perform all over the world and at spaces including Lincoln Center and BAM. I've composed and scored feature films including Supergirl which recently appeared on PBS. I've released two albums under Glass Ghost and I am currently getting ready to release my newest album of ambient pop music, Wave In Time, early 2019.
I've been teaching piano and composition for 15 years. I've taught countless private lessons to people from all ages from as early as 5 years old to 70! I particularly love to help people create their own music and connect to their own musical voice. I help students get through all of the basics; scales, reading, harmony and music theory. I am very good at helping students be creative and to find something inside themselves that allows them to express their voice. I love to inspire people.
For beginning students who are children I typically start with a book. We can pair that with playing different musical games and improvisation. For beginning adults I like to pick some simple songs that resonate and work towards learning them. I believe strongly in the diversity of the student. I realize that not everyone likes books. In addition to the building blocks I typically like to get right into learning by ear and improvisation with most students. Why not start learning music by making music right away?
I strongly believe that learning is an extremely personal endeavor. I am very sensitive to each student's style of learning. I like to get to know what inspires each student and help them fuel their own inspiration. I really think the learning should come from them. Sometimes I see myself as a facilitator, helping ushering in the calling that is already within. I am very good at helping the student set realistic goals. I have a vast knowledge of music both music of the time and of the past ages. I love to show students new music they haven't heard before.
