I am a very passionate instructor who will help you or your child with any area of music you are looking to improve upon. I am a firm believer that the student steers the lesson; and why do music if you don't enjoy it? I am 23 years old and working on my bachelor's in music education. I am currently the Deering Middle School chorus and digital music temp teacher in Rhode Island as well as an avid voice and instrumental private instructor. I am also working through the Assembly Theater in northern Rhode Island as one of their two pool music directors. I have worked at ccri as a student tutor and assistant teacher. During that time, I taught a couple of students in voice and ran a choir. The choir has performed many times in multiple venues such as the RI state house. I have sung and performed in many different genres, so I am equipped for whatever you or your student needs to learn!
I've been teaching private lessons for 2 years; first starting with a few students from the college. Recently have sung with RICCO (performing works such as Carmina Burana). I have been in many shows, such as Into the Woods (Cinderella's Prince), Brundebar (the baker), HMS Pinafore (Captain Cochran), and Gatsby (Nick Carraway). I have also played saxophone with a few collegiate groups, as well as Music directed "Rock of Ages Jr.", and most recently a rolling performance group, Assemglee. Each genre or experience in music is incredibly unique, and I encourage students to study in more than one musical area. Whether that be classical opera and jazz saxophone or pop vocals and ukelele, I strongly encourage this kind of studying (especially for younger students).
I firmly believe in starting with the basics of singing for younger students, however they should have fun as well as learn. Giving them a choice in at least one song we do every so often, to me, is the way to keep them interested in the art. As the students get older, I attempt to have them sing in multiple genres and languages, as to broaden their experience and see what they like. Finally, I do a good amount of range work with my students, to get them as comfortable as possible with extremes in music.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student progress, or better yet, develop a love for music. When my students succeed, I feel as though I have. I feel as though every student should progress at their own pace and music especially should not be something that stresses the student out (especially when it is art). I have had many teachers that were very old-fashioned and harsh in their ways and this can give the student a distaste for music. I follow an approach that is more about the student and what they enjoy while still exchanging an understanding of excellence. This does not mean however that I don't emphasize practice, technique, or assign pieces. There is a happy median!
He really helped me reach my full potential! Mr.B is super nice and understanding, I feel very comfortable in his lessons.
