I am a professional songwriter, pianist and arranger. I go beyond the "lesson book" in my teaching; in the world of YouTube and self-instruction, I teach students to discover how to play music by ear so they can teach themselves, with or without sheet music! It is of utmost importance for me to learn what the student wants to accomplish in their music studies and I believe it is my job as a teacher to encourage students to achieve their personal music goals through structured learning while fostering their love for music.
I have 20 years of teaching experience, from beginner lessons all the way to professional music mentorship. We will develop a strong musical foundation centered around taking care of YOUR musical path. It is important to connect with your creativity because you alone are responsible for telling stories in your music. My lessons are rigorous and extremely fun at the same time. I am a working musician and only take students who are serious about learning music and dedicating time to their own personal growth.
What makes my teaching different is that I shape my method around the music you love. Not only will you learn how to read sheet music, but you will discover how to play by ear. We will also study creativity: improvisation and songwriting are essential skills for a musician of any level---even if you can't imagine yourself being a songwriter! I have developed a 5-step Songwriting method that teaches you to find your voice as a creator and turn it into music. This method is beneficial to seasoned songwriters and beginners alike.
See for yourself! Not every teacher is the perfect fit for every student. I am an encouraging and creatively wacky instructor who sets goals for every student. It's important for you to feel you are matched with someone who cares about your musical growth and can communicate effectively using your learning style. The only way to know if a teacher is a good fit is by taking a lesson. I have limited space in my studio and am an actively gigging musician, so I look for students who are ready to learn and will dedicate time to their musical studies.
