I'm very passionate to share my love for music with students that are eager to learn. I started playing the violin at the age of 5 and switched to the viola at the end of middle school. I'm born in Bulgaria, and in 2011 moved to the United States to pursue my higher education. I completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Viola Performance, at the University of Georgia. I received my MM and Artist Diploma in Viola Performance from Texas Christian University, and BM from the National Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria.
I am classically trained with more than 15 years of international performing experience and 6+ years of private and classroom teaching experience. Besides private teaching, my experience includes teaching in an El Sistema setting (B Sharp Youth Music program in Texas) and for public school-based programs like String project and Boys and girls club in GA. I have been fortunate to teach the viola at the UGA Summer Camp and as a visiting clinician at area schools. Currently, I'm part of the faculty of UGA Community music school and Atlanta Music Academy. Prior to coming to the US, I have performed in Bulgaria, Romania, Spain, Germany, Luxemburg, Austria, Switzerland, and Denmark.
I decide my methodology depending on the age, skill level, and individual goals and interests of each student. For very young pre-school students, I'd encourage them to learn the music by ear (Suzuki method) and through repetition in various ways. For older school-aged students I strongly believe in the importance of note-reading and I might use the Essential elements method books, that introduce the musical notation and theory concepts in a way appropriate for people with no prior musical training. I believe all methods should be supplemented with additional sources to aid the proper development of the technical and musical skills of each student.
I'm offering both violin and viola lessons to all ages and levels, with an open-minded personal approach tailored to each student's individual interests, needs, and goals. I have a calm and patient personality and I will do my best to make sure that the student understands what and why they are asked to do a certain thing. I believe in the importance of creating a nurturing and respectful learning environment and that developing the student's own critical thinking through asking questions and self-reflecting is essential for their success.
