Overview:
I am a native of Roma, Texas, a small town located in the far southern tip of the state. My music career initiated when my uncle, Jose F. Rodriguez, mentored me on classical guitar when I was 10 years old. My passion grew bigger by listening to recordings of the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Berlin Philharmonic and other prestigious orchestral ensembles around the world, so I finally decided to enroll as a student at Texas State University to study bass trombone under the guidance of Martin G. McCain. During my time at Texas State University, I have been invited to perform at national and international events such as the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, the Big 12 Trombone Conference, the Eastern Trombone Workshop and the International Trombone Festival. I have been named finalist for the Eastern Trombone Workshop, the Big 12 Trombone Conference, the Texas State Trombone Symposium, and has won the “Woods/Kone” and Concerto Competition at Texas State University. I have also been featured as a soloist with the Texas State Symphony Orchestra and the Texas State Trombone Choir. I have participated in summer programs such as the Rafael Mendez Institute in Denver, Co., and was a featured musician at the Sea World Summer Music Program.
EXPERIENCE
I provided students with lessons for 4 years during my undergraduate career in the San Antonio and Austin, Texas area. I was able to work with students from the ages of 7-30+. I make learning a fun experience and my focus on teaching is to make those who make music, enjoy what they do!
METHODS USED
I work with students, depending on their levels of musicianship. My main goal as a teacher is for my students to feel connected to the piece they are playing. "Stop thinking technical, and think musical."
LESSON STYLE
I come from the teachings of Edward Kleinhammer and Emory Remington, both outstanding trombone teachers. My undergraduate professor studied the techniques these two fine musicians advocated, and passed it on to me.
