I'm a passionate instructor who thoroughly loves bringing the gift and love of music alive in students. In 2017 I had graduated with my Fine Arts in Music degree at Mchenry County College. I enjoy discovering the new sounds in music and writing when inspired. Currently I am apart of a worship team at my church and I play keyboard but I find I play mostly without sheet music. I love adding my own touch to what I am hearing and simply play from my heart. I accompany my students that have needed me to play along with them whether it would be at a wedding or a recital or just at home during lessons. I look forward to helping those grow in this gifting as well!
I have been teaching during my college days and had received my first student while there. Currently I have been teaching for the past 13 years through traveling in the Lake and Mchenry county areas. What inspires students is the great passion they see in you but truly having fun in the lessons while teaching them the foundational components that are important in the beginning. I definitely encourage consistent daily practice times which will be key in seeing their love for it ignite. I enjoy introducing new material as it adds a variety of options and color to really discover their style as they continue to grow. It is highly important from the very beginning to set the stage for them to truly love what they do and everything else will come out of that. Also, I have worked with students to prepare them at their schools for adjudications for solo ensembles and thoroughly enjoy the process of preparation to performance. I love watching students I have had for years grow and take their passion for the piano to college and I look forward to seeing many more excel!
For my beginner students who are children I typically start out with either Hal Leonard or Fabre lesson books to learn all the very important foundational keys in music. As I notice they are grasping the concepts and able to apply them I then like to find outside resources such as sheet music, classical, pop to allow them to enjoy and discover what they love most. When it comes to my beginner adult students I usually start them off in the Fabre adult beginner book. I like to find out what types of music they would have interest in learning from the beginning and then start to introduce that as we continue in the lesson book. I find it very important to stay connected to my students and want them to have fun as we are learning along the way!
As a teacher nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students love and grow in their passion for music and the piano! I want them to feel like they are continuing to enjoy it most while growing at their own pace. It is important that we set goals so that we can continue seeing progress in their growth. The lessons I plan out for them are geared towards their continued progress in theory, technique, performance and scale work. One of my passions is also working with students who want to express their creative side and use scale work to compose their own pieces. What makes me smile the most is when I know they are loving it more and more and have an even greater desire to play from the heart and give that passion away to others! :)
