Overview:
.I am passionate about music and the transforming power it has in people's lives. I have Suzuki teacher training in Flute Book one from East Tennesse University in 1996. I have my Masters in Education from Lehigh University. Currently I am the Music Specialist for Lehigh University's Child Care Center, and I direct the Youth Choir at St. Theresa Parish in Hellertown. I perform with the Moravian College Collegium Musicum and sing with the Allentown Diocesan Choir.  I am currently Licensed to Teach MusikGarten and plan to hold a class this Fall for 3-5 year olds.
EXPERIENCE
I studied transverse flute at Moravian College with Robin Kani from 1985-1992. From March 1996 to May 1997, I studied with Brooks De-Wetter Smith at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I studied recorder for two semesters at Moravian College with professors Dr. Paul Larson and Dr. Larry Lipkis, composer in residence and performer with the Baltimore Consort. 1994 I began to teach privately. I have taught Suzuki flute Book one to beginners, from 1996-1997 in Chapel Hill, NC, and also at the Lehigh Conservatory from 1998-2002 I also teach intermediate to advanced level in flute and baroque recorder. I have much experience teaching youngsters and am currently the Music Specialist at Lehigh University Child Care Center, where I have been teaching preschool music since 2006. I have also taught Kindermusik from 1996-2008. Along with flute and recorder, I play and teach piano to those at a beginner and intermediate level.      My experience dates back to 1994. I began teaching private lessons.
METHODS USED
“Art Exists for the human species. I think that all of the people who love art, those who teach art, and all of you should burn with the obligation to save the world”    -Shinichi Suzuki I believe in encouraging my students and teaching one step at a time, which they can succeed and become confident musicians. I will also encourage them to listen to recordings of famous artists and make listening and practicing a part of their day.  For beginning flutists, I actually will teach them to spit (with aim) one grain of rice before they use their head joint for the first time. It is pretty funny but works like a gem. Toshio Takahashi came up with this way to have a concrete way to teach begiiners embouchure and sound production. When the student practices with the rice, they produce a powerful"toot" the first time the headjoint reaches their lips! I like to use the Suzuki materials for flute and also mix it up with favorite duet books and classic repetoire. I always encourage my students to find pieces that are their favorites that they would like to play, an extra motivation.   For piano, we will work on the basics with fingering. Start with playing melodies using the right and left hands and then introducing the bass line and chords.  I have a number of method books which I make use of and visual aids for the keyboard and the staff.
LESSON STYLE
I am enthusiastic about music and enjoy giving my students the tools they will need to achieve their dreams.  I don't believe I've taught two students in exactly the same way. I like to tailor my teaching for each individual I teach. I do keep in mind that some of my learners are more Visual learners, others more kinesthetic, and others more auditory.  I make use of their strengths to help them develop new musical skills. I believe that every child has the ability to achieve in music. I am a Suzuki certified teacher in Flute and enjoy and believe in his step by step and nurturing methodology.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
