Overview:
I am a passionate instructor who believes that every student can learn and love music. I graduated from UW-Milwaukee in 2010 with a Music Education degree. My certifications are K-12 choral, general, and instrumental music. I have been involved in several performance groups throughout my career, including the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, the UWM Symphony, the Turtle Creek Chamber Orchestra, and the Rock River Philharmonic. I have performed solo in venues throughout the Milwaukee area.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching privately since 2006 and in public schools since 2011. I have high expectations of my students and encourage them to have fun in their lessons. As my students grow, I tailor their repertoire to fit their needs and interests. I teach child and adult students. It's never too late to learn!
METHODS USED
For piano I use the Alfred series, and for violin and viola I use a combination of Essential Elements and Suzuki books. As students advance I introduce additional solo repertoire. My voice students learn from a variety of sources. I usually start with a song they know well and work from there. Students also learn a variety of warm-ups and sight-singing techniques.
LESSON STYLE
The goal for each lesson is for the student to notice their progress and develop a passion for music. Student input is very important to me. In my lessons I strive to make the student feel comfortable enough to ask questions and make comments about their own progress. I am encouraging yet firm and expect a lot from my students. My lessons are fun and informative, and they help me convey my love of music!
