Graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2022 with my BA
I'm a passionate and focused instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2020, I graduated from Catholic Distance University with an associate's degree in liberal arts. In 2022, I obtained my bachelor's degree with a double major in history and English. Right now, I am working towards an associate's degree in philosophy from Franciscan University. Even though I have a great love for the liberal arts, I also have a great love for music as well. I have been playing piano for more than fifteen years and the violin for more than ten years. Currently, I am a pianist for Von Maur department store, where I provide beautiful and relaxing music to customers while they shop.
I have been a high school and middle school teacher of the humanities for a couple of years now, which I have greatly enjoyed. In addition to this, I have a couple of piano students, which I taught for a while now. I encourage them to practice consistently at least for a half an hour a day so that they progress faster. In my lessons, I assign a classical piece, scale exercises, and even a pop piece to motivate them so that they not only continue to improve, but also implement what they learned in the pop piece itself. Ultimately, if a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job!
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Faber series, along with accompanying primer theory and lesson book. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. In addition to this, I typically start to add scale exercises to increase strength and speed in one's fingers. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. But regardless of what level or age the student is at, I assign a classical piece, scale exercises, and a pop piece for the student to work on.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. By having these realistic goals, students will feel greater accomplishment at what they achieved as I do not want to overwhelm the student with too much material or information. I also encourage and love when students ask questions! But ultimately, I want to acknowledge and praise students for their efforts and hard work as this will help a student progress, making them eager to learn more!
