I'm a passionate and detail-oriented instructor who strives to nourish a love and appreciation for music in my students! I have been playing piano for nearly 16 years, but teaching is a newfound passion of mine! I have been classically trained for more than 4 years, some of which I spent studying music theory and classical piano performance at University of North Georgia. I credit my very own piano teacher for instilling the passion and enthusiasm that has led me to become an established musician and songwriter. I look forward to teaching the next generation of musicians!
I studied with Dr. Chapman, former director of the music department at University of North Georgia, for 4 years. The classical training and numerous recitals adequately prepared me for the years to come. I play live music at various restaurants and events in the Fayette county area (including Frank's at the Old Mill every Tuesday). My teaching experience is limited as I began teaching this year; however, the students that I have currently have progressed phenomenally. My mission is to make learning fun! Music is challenging, but my curriculum ensures that every student will enjoy, not only retaining music theory, but playing the music that they love!
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a select list of guided lesson books (depending on skill level and musical interests). Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Ultimately, my approach to teaching is catering to the student's ear for music and making connections between such and their cognitive functions. This enhances their memories and ability to learn more material in less time.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. When I was a student, I only found the motivation to practice when I was INTERESTED in what I was learning. I ALWAYS keep this in mind with my own students.
