Working towards a BM, Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, Music Education & Violin Performance
I'm a passionate, motivated teacher who loves with students of all ability levels and trying to encourage a love of music in my students. I am currently working towards a BM double degree in Music Education and Violin Performance at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University. I've had the opportunity to play all over the world through my youth orchestra and I have had even greater opportunites through my college. This spring I will be performing at the Avery Fischer Hall in New York with the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra.
I began teaching private lessons when I was a junior in high school and have been teaching since then. My philosophy is that any one can play an instrument with the proper instruction and patience. I encourage my students to practice regularly and strive to achieve their goals, but most importantly my goal is to help them to feel more confident and enjoy music, no matter what stage they are at in their musicianship.
For very beginning students, I usually start with the Suzuki Method Books and All For Strings Comprehensive String Method Books. I usually encourage my students to read music, but for the youngest students I start by playing with them and having them copy me. Once they are ready, I start teaching them basic music theory that will help them read music. For intermediate to advanced players I institute a routine of practicing scales and etudes as well as a solo piece that is appropriate for their ability level. I try to keep lessons fun and always encourage my students to bring me any music they are interested in learning. I am mainly a classical musician, and therefore will mainly teach a classical style, but I also enjoy playing other genres of music and will try to incorporate some fun alternatives to classical in our lessons.
The best feeling as a teacher is seeing my students progress and take pride in their playing. I take an individual approach to every student, understanding that each person learns differently and will have different strengths and weaknesses. I always make sure to reward my students for their progress and make sure they know that everything can be achieved with hard work.
