I teach all ages all levels, and a wide range of genres, beginning as early as 5 years of age. My oldest student was 87 years old. I have an extensive background in music education and have held various positions as church music director, organist, pianist, directed youth and adult choirs, and have helped home schooled students complete music and arts requirements. I have performed in a wide range of community entertainment venues, programs and recitals, teas, weddings end of life memorial services, fundraisers, private parties, etc. Music therapy for individuals experiencing troubling and stressful situations is of great interest to me and provides a way to give back to others.
I have been involved in music study and education, church music, and performance nearly all my life. My mother started me in piano lessons at the age of 4 six decades ago. It's the greatest gift she ever gave me...one that has lasted a lifetime. My passion and desire is to share the love of music and the wonderful sense of achievement from making your own music with my strudents.
I begin all students with the appropiate level of the Alfred's method. If they have had training with another method, I work to blend that method with the Alfred's method during the first month or two of lessons. Once the student has learned the fundamentals, I introduce them to the solo repertoire appropriate for their level and their genre of greatest interest to them. I hold a recital once a year to give students experience in performance. This helps build their confidence in the new skilss they have learned during the year and provides them a great sense of achievement. .
I spend several lessons getting to know the student, what their music interests are, what they have previously learned and then tailor lessons to the individual student. I encourage them to stretch beyond the familiar while providing a very individualistic approach to their lessons. In the very near future, I hope to be able to provide online lessons as well as in my studio or the student's home.
