Overview:
Studying music has been one of the most positive forces in my life. I am dedicated to providing a welcoming and non judgmental environment for my students to freely express themselves. I graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in New York with my Bachelors degree and I returned to pursue my Masters degree. I have performed all over the world and I produce many concerts for charity. I have performed in major venues such as Alice Tully Hall and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine as well as avant-garde spaces such as the Firehouse Space and Tellus 360. I am also a founding member of a clarinet, soprano and piano trio.
EXPERIENCE
I have marinated a private studio since I began my undergrad in Lawrence, Kansas. I took two semesters of clarinet pedagogy at KU and I frequently presented clinics to middle school students in Lawrence public schools. In New York, I am a faculty member with the MSM Sunday program as well as Musika. I have volunteered with MSM’s outreach program in New York public schools.
METHODS USED
For all of my students, regardless of level, playing together in lessons is a big part of my teaching method. Playing together in lessons fosters intonation, musical commutation skills and sound blending. For beginning students, I work a lot on sound production and tonguing through progressive etudes and duets. I incorporate performance environments early into my curriculum. For older students, I explore fundamentals through advanced etudes and work on solo repertoire, chamber music and orchestral excerpts. My goal is to help each of my students find what they love about music making. I will cater each lesson to the individual student to keep each lesson interesting and enjoyable.
LESSON STYLE
Every student contributes different strengths and will grow at different paces. I will help my students create a path for themselves to accomplish their goals. My lessons are a safe zone, exploring music in an accepting, comfortable and judgement-free environment. I infuse music history and theory into my teaching. I also encourage students to explore multiple genres of music for a broad experience.
