I started playing the guitar at age 14. There was just something about it, I would find myself playing for hours on end. The sound, the feel. I loved all facets of playing the guitar. In 1998 I started to get very serious about my playing and started playing professionally in studios, recording for various artists and record labels. In 1999 I wrote and performed the theme song for the Home Depot. In 2006, I started working on soundtracks and commercial production music. Recording for such companies as Disney and THQ Video games, Networks such as The Weather Channel,Discovery Channel and National Geographic. I really enjoy teaching guitar to aspiring musicians. Seeing someone transform into a musician in their own right gives me great pleasure. I also own Tone Guitar Company, we build fine handcrafted electric guitars
My teaching experience spans the music store environment and private students. I started out giving private lessons in students homes over 15 years ago, eventually becoming a guitar teacher at a local music store. I'm a big advocate of having fun while practicing. This is called playing for a reason. Music can sometimes be viewed as this big mountain to climb and seemingly, a task. Baby steps is the way to think here. Learn something new as much as you can. Everyday I play the guitar I try and learn something new and always remember no matter how good you get to always be a student of the instrument. It goes a long way in your own abilities. I enjoy teaching anyone willing to learn the guitar. Age and gender do not matter to me. The guitar doesn't care who's playing it but when you play it well, it sings, no matter who's playing it! When I'm not playing a guitar I like to spend time with family and listen to music from all walks of life
For the absolute beginner, I generally, will start with the absolute basic foundation. This includes, correct posture, basic playing essentials, guitar setup and tuning. No one plays a guitar well when the strings are a half inch off the fretboard! So, I help my students get their guitar setup for optimum playability. I usually do this in the first or second lesson. As the student begins to learn we start to work into the actual playing of the guitar. I will then begin to work into fingering, picking, chords and other basic elements. Beginners are also instructed on the foundation of all music which is melody, harmony and rythym. For the more advanced student I find, most want to know more about technique, finding their own sound, theory and a more advanced knowledge of how to increase their abilities on guitar. I evaluate the students natural and practiced skills and build from there using a variety of techniques that I have used myself to learn the guitar on an advanced level I create my own lessons plans based on the student. I try to focus on the students interests as much as possible. Lastly, I use rythym training a lot with all my students. If it's not played in time, It's not music yet. We will work together to get it where it needs to be! I use real drum loops and other media for this. This dramatically increases the students feel for the pulse of the music. My student sets the pace, I let each student catch up to me before moving on. This keeps them interested and from becoming overwhelmed. By the time we are done, the student will be able to perform songs with me
My teaching style is unique in the fact that I spend a good amount of time actually playing music with the student.A partnership is established through music by doing this and the friendship begins. After the basics have been established, this is usually when I will begin to really get this into the lesson. I really enjoy hearing a student start to develope their ear for music. I tend to shy away from too much book work. I feel they aren't learning from someone's book and they could do that with just the book, without me. If each of us learned from the same book we would all be playing the same music! They are here because they want to be shown. The last thing I want for my students is to feel burdened by bookwork while learning the guitar. Playing guitar is extremely rewarding and it is my job to make the best player I can out of each and every student I teach. From beginner to advanced my lessons will improve what you are trying to do with the guitar. I am looking forward to exploring the world of music with you.

Thanks Eric. I'm playing music now that I never thought I could. I appreciate you taking the time to help me set up my guitar. It really made a difference. Best guitar teacher I've had by far.
