I'm a very passionate and hard working teacher, with a goal to keep the legacy of music passed on. I believe in building relationships with all of my students, as I have learned people only want to learn from people they like. I graduated from West Georgia University with a BA in Guitar performance, and a minor focus on piano and saxophone. I have experience playing classical, jazz, and rock all over the country as well as in Germany for a jazz tour in college. I have lived and performed in Atlanta, New Orleans, Portland, and now Denver.
I have been working as an instructor for over 15 years. I can teach all ages and backgrounds, and have a very patient approach. I recently moved to the Denver area, and I am excited to start up and build a new student base. I do expect my students to practice, as it is the only way a student will improve and grow to love music even more. I encourage my students to get involved in any talent shows at school, as well as any competitions and recitals available in the area. I also encourage my students to play with as many people as they possibly can, new ideas are always formed this way.
I adapt my methods to each student accordingly. Every person is unique and has a different taste in music. However I am strict in making sure that all my students understand the fundamentals of music. Ear Training, music theory, ability to read notation and tabs, understanding chords and voicing, how to count rhythms. I have a set list of songs I teach most of my students, as they help to develop technique and are usually well received by most students. Adult students are a little different, they usually have a pretty good idea of the kind of music they would like to learn.
My goal is to pass my deep love for music on to everyone that I teach. I will work hard for my students, and in return hopefully they will work hard for me. Learning to play a music instrument takes patience and discipline. The rewards are incredible, it can teach a student so much more than being able to play just music. Valuable life lessons come from playing a music instrument. Focus, discipline, love and commitment, ability to adapt and work with other people, be more social and active in community.
