My name is Eric D. I am a passionate and driven Drummer/Multi Instrumentalist from Connecticut currently based in Los Angeles, CA. After graduating from one of the most prestigious music schools in the world (Berklee College of Music) I have had the privilege of performing all over the country as well as many places around the world. I am confident that I can unlock your passion for music and teach you the necessary tools to learn this beautiful language.
I have been teaching since 2012 while still in school. Once entering Berklee College of Music I started to work as part of the Vocal and Piano Departments to help incoming students with learning how to write charts and play with a band. I have taught internationally in places such as China and Vietnam and created full curriculum for International camps around Vietnam. I am currently teaching a few remote students and have taught ensemble classes and VQT Music Academy in Garden Grove, California
I first like to establish a strong internal clock in a new student. I think it is important to understand the feeling of each beat. To learn proper coordination I like to use the book "Syncopation" to practice playing rhythms with multiple limbs as well as learning how to read music. I think it is important to balance this technical work with passion. Figuring out popular songs that the student is into is crucial for them to continue to be interested in the instrument! There is a whole world to uncover in drumming/learning music and finding your lane to get you there is a huge job as a teacher.
My teaching style is supportive. I like to help teach a student how to practice as well as how to play. My fondest memories as a student were those where I was learning and listening to music with my teacher. Watching them react and feel the beats is an incredibly informative part of the learning experience. Learning of to digest material and make it feel musical and fun for the student is a huge goal that I have as a teacher. I look forward to learning your love for music and what moves you together!
