Bachelor Degree: Brooklyn College
To all my future students, I have been a professional singer/ actor from the age of 13. A native of NY, as a child, I appeared in an off -Broadway show called Curley McDimple @ the Bert Wheeler theatre in NYC. And never looked back. I continued to perform on cruise ships, dinner theater , voice overs, eventually forming my own Single engagement band company working as a vocalist and MC. I still do! My technique is based on centuries old teaching from the Bel Canto era, and applied to modern-day material. I teach a very relaxed and fun lesson! You'll get nowhere if its stressful. Looking forward to working with you!
I've been teaching voice for the last 15 years .prior to, I have been a professional vocalist and MC for many of the top single engagement orchestras in New York City and still do ! I have worked with several Broadway performers of all ages, male and female, (i have a 3 octave. range) and love exploring what the voice can do. every voice is different. every voice is unique; its quality, Timbre and resonance ....all different in in all of us. If we work together, we will explore what makes a song "yours"
my method of teaching voice is based on centuries-old bel canto School.singing bel canto meaning beautiful song or beautiful voice,, it should be effortless and we will find the effortless spots in your voice. we will continue on to repertoire . Usually the songs that are most suited for your voice are material that resonate with you emotionally. if you are a beginner, we will start with simple vocal exercises to warm up the vocal cords, and eventually move on to develope repertoire. if you are not a beginner and you've had vocal training in the past we will work your voice to the sweetest parts, and work in material that makes you a voice sore!
I love to impart my passion and knowledge a voice and song to my students it gives me the greatest pleasure I have many many years of vocal experience of performance that has led me to this point of loving to teach! I started teaching when my daughter and my son were very small basically 4 and 5 years old we would listen to the music that they love to listen to together at that point I would point out to them sounded really good oh wow you hit those notes so easily and I would teach them what they did to produce that sound so easily and it stuck with them!
I worked with Eric for 5 years before he left NYC and moved to Tucson. I had recently graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU with a degree in musical theatre and was looking for a voice teacher to continue my training. As a brilliant singer in his own right, I had heard him perform and felt inspired to learn how to sing like him. When I first started working with him, I had been struggling with chronic hoarseness. Exhaustion and the stress of constant auditioning had been taking a toll on my voice. Eric taught me how to relax my throat and neck muscles by taking deep diaphragmatic breaths and lifting my soft palate. Through a series of breathing and vocal exercises at the start of each lesson, I learned how to sustain support and pitch without straining. That tremendously helped my technique. He also taught me about phrasing and how to make a song my own; to emote while singing so that my technique became second nature and I could simply focus on the core of what the song was about. He was also very kind and encouraging, which gave me the confidence I needed to succeed at auditions. I’m extremely grateful for all he has taught me and miss him here in New York! Can’t recommend him highly enough. -Carole L.
