I'm a certified music instructor whose favorite part of teaching is getting to meet new people and bond over music. I graduated from Messiah College with Bachelor's degree in Music education and have taught as a certified music teacher for a year now. I have been playing clarinet since grade school, saxophone since high school, and picked up piano in college. I have also performed in many ensembles, such as the Messiah College Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. I have also continued my teaching career through teaching in the Oakland Public School District and the Indian Hills Marching band, as well as being the music teacher at Sporting Hill Elementary School in Mechanicsburg, PA.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching lessons when I was in college five years ago, and have continued teaching in New Jersey. I do not yet have a home studio, but am willing to go straight to the student as well as conduct online lessons. I taught elementary and middle school music in the Oakland Public School District, and taught elementary general music at Sporting Hill Elementary School. I continue to teach music as a part of the Indian Hills Marching Band staff. I teach piano at an elementary level, but can teach saxophone and clarinet at an advanced level. My goal as a teacher is to allow students to make connections and achieve their goals through music!
METHODS USED
For beginner students, I typically start with rote lessons that teach the basics of the instruments. Then, I move into performing basic, pedagogically-appropriate scales, and begin curriculum in the Rubank Elementary Method books. For more advanced students, I usually have them start with the intermediate or advanced method books, and we learn more advanced major and minor scales, followed by arpeggios and chords (if on piano.) Overall, my main objective is for students to have fun and make meaningful connections.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is based on a balance between fun and progression. I have a loose, fun-loving personality that can also be balanced with the seriousness to get things done. I ensure that the student knows that I care, both about their goals, and them as an individual. I use a lot of humor and wit in my lessons to help make sure my students are relaxed. I also provide critical feedback that both allows students to improve while at the same time highlight a student's strengths. This ensures that the student is able to make improvements while maintaining their confidence on their instrument.
