My name is Erick Velazquez. I have been playing cello for 18 years and I love it! I did not start taking lessons until later in my career but once I did I improved dramatically which I why I believe that taking lessons privately is a critical part of learning any instrument. I love teaching students how to play the string instruments because its so much fun to see them improve! I teach middle school students in orchestra class everyday and I'm confident as a private online teacher as well.
I have been teaching privately for three years. In my time teaching I have learned that the fundamentals of playing an intrument is one of the biggest obstacles to overcome. With this in mind I have found many different ways to isolate weaknesses and build them to a higher level. My students have all improved from the first day that I taught them and I look forward to teach more students. As stated earlier, I teach middle school students everyday day as their orchestra director. I also help prepare them as solo players as well.
I look at a students ability to read music first to determine what kind of music they should be working on. I teach students on an individual basis in order to quickly help them improve. I expected online students to bring up information about their playing experiences so that can best accommodate them as their online private teacher. During quarantine, I was able to teach 100 students how to play an orchestra instrument and it has a lot to do with showing and explaining live during those lessons.
I expect my students to come into their lessons with a notebook and pencil so that they can write down what happens during the lessons. This is how they look back and reflect during their individual practice. As the online teacher, the best I can do is give tips and ideas about playing so that my students can bring their knew knowledge into their own musical experiences; wether that is with another string teacher or with other musical friends. I love playing music and I make sure my students enjoy playing their instruments too.
