Overview:
I am a motivated and energetic teacher! In 2011, I graduated from Baldwin Wallace University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Clarinet Performance and just this past May I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Masters degree in Music. I have taught students of all ages for the past 10 years, and I very much enjoy working with students and sharing my love for music. I've played at Carnegie Hall, performed in front of Imani Winds, and played in countless pits. Music is my passion! Contact me for more info!
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons out of my mom's kitchen 10 years ago. Since then I have been consistently teaching students at both colleges I have attended. Now that I have moved back to my hometown, I am employed at a local music store teaching woodwind players. There are three things I like to emphasize for students who are beginning a new instrument: 1. Practice, practice (on a consistent schedule)! 2. Learn familiar songs (motivation!) 3. Have fun and enjoy the accomplishments you've made! I encourage my students to take advantage of as many opportunities as possible (competitions, honor bands, recitals, etc.) and listening to as much music as they can! I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
METHODS USED
For beginning students who are children, I typically teach the book that they use in band class. If they/the parents would prefer a specific book or are not in band, I typically use Standard of Excellence, the red book and then progress to the blue book. Once the student understands the fundamentals and has progressed, I then begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I learn of what the student is interested in and then I guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter the ability.
LESSON STYLE
Do you know what's more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music? Nothing! Therefore, it is important that each and every student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps motivate and fuel desire to progress, practice and learn even more. By learning what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to his/her wants and needs. I look forward to meeting you or your student!
