I was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. I came to Arizona pursuing my masters degree in music performance, and have stayed in the Valley of the Sun. My time is spent teaching private lessons, working for Weber Reeds oboe repair and supply shop, and playing with various groups around the valley, such as Arizona Pro Arte and Scottsdale Philharmonic. I live in Chandler with my husband, Chad.
I have over nine years of teaching experience. I have taught all age ranges, from three years old to adult. I have worked as a beginning band teaching assistant and was part of the Western Kentucky University Double Reed Pre-college training program. I received pedagogy training from Dr. Michele Fiala, Martin Schuring, and Dr. Donald Speer.
I prefer books in the Bastien series and the Faber & Faber series, but I have used a variety of courses with students, all with success.
As a teacher, I emphasize a positive-focused teaching method. I work with each student as an individual, based on their goals and learning styles. In lessons, I focus on relaxed, correct posture and playing position, in addition to ensuring rhythms, pitch-reading, and theory are understood. I also spend time with students focusing on expressive aspects of music, with the goal of performing in a studio recital or other venue.
Miss Erin is great. She is not only a gifted teacher, but encourages children to be creative with music.
