About me… I am a professional session vocalist with over 15 years of experience in the studio and self-recording. I am a seasoned touring musician with insider industry knowledge. I have a decorated discography with recorded works appearing in film, television, radio and the Billboard charts. I am also... Someone that has overcome stage fright. A musician that plays instruments (guitar and bass) while singing. A songwriter who knows how scary it can be to share your work with the world. I have experienced the highs and lows of what it means to be an artist and musician and I want to meet you on your journey wherever you are at. In addition to experience, I seek to bring insight, understanding, compassion, and encouragement to all of my students
I began teaching private voice lessons in 2014 and have been in love with coaching ever since! I love getting to meet new students and learning what motivates them, what music they like, and preparing them for whatever singing opportunities may come their way. By having a diverse student roster I learned that, not everyone has the same goals when it comes to strengthening their voice, that’s why I work with you to establish your unique aspirations and develop a curriculum just for you. I love helping my students find their unique voice, style, and sound. No two voices are the same, and I want to help you love yours. I will teach you my tried and true methods for warm ups, breath control, range expansion, and how to move through vocal registers. I want to help prepare you for wherever your journey takes you: auditions, studio sessions, competitions, open mic nights… you name it! I’ll work with you through it.
When I take on a new student I first want to gauge what their goals are, what music they like, assess ability/level, and start building trust. From there we will learn various warm-up and vocal exercises to get their voice strong and flexible. Together we will choose a song to work on during our lessons that is fun for the student and applies use of the vocal strengthening exercises. For every student I teach, I develop a custom lesson plan, so that the student is working on the skills and styles most pertinent to them.
I believe that lessons should be fun! I had to overcome a lot of stage fright when I was a beginner, so it is important to me that the lesson environment is fun, low-pressure, and encouraging. I check in with my students frequently to see how they are feeling about trying new exercises and techniques, if they are understanding the skill I am teaching, and how they see themselves making progress. I use a lot of visuals and metaphors in my teaching style. It is important to me that my students understand not only music theory, but the physiology of their voice. I work with my students to explain things in as many ways are needed for them to have the lightbulb “I get it!” moment.
