I’m a passionate teacher who is motivated to help my students achieve their own personal goals. If anything, I hope to share and pass on my love of music to my students. I graduated from CCM in 2013 and McGill in 2019 with degrees in cello performance from both schools. Last year, I moved to Colorado to play with the Altius Quartet and am excited to start growing my private studio! My favorite performance in my career so far was in March of 2019 with the ensemble Uccello in Berlin, Germany. I love that music has taken me all over the world and has facilitated many personal and professional connections!
I began teaching cello part time 7 years ago when I was a freshman in college in Cincinnati. I’ve had the pleasure of teaching students from age 4 to 54. With students of all ages, I like to emphasize the importance of consistent practice in order to see improvement in their playing. However, I believe that learning to play the cello should be fun! In my quartet, we recognize the importance of playing music of all different genres so that our audiences leave enjoying at least something. I keep the same philosophy in my teaching - I’m happy to teach any style of music to my students to help learn exactly what they want to be able to play!
I have the most experience teaching beginner students with the Suzuki method. The main focus of Dr. Suzuki’s method is teaching from a place of love and encouragement. I find this method teaches the technical fundamentals of cello playing while keeping the students progressing at rate suitable for their individual needs. I also emphasize regular scale and technical practice in addition to solo repertoire. I have a whole wealth of technical exercises and warm ups to share to make your everyday warm up different! For adults, I’m happy to teach whatever they may be interested in to keep it fun and engaging!
As I stated above, I teach from a place of love and encouragement, finding ways to inspire my students to achieve their personal goals. The most important thing for me as an instructor is to help my students to develop a lifelong love and passion for music! So, I tailor my lesson plan for each student based on their own desires and needs. I’m thrilled to meet the student where they are and help them develop a strong technical foundation while encouraging music thought and development. I believe that anyone can learn to play the cello and would love to have the chance to help you foster your inner musician!
