Bachelor Degree: Rollins College
I’ve been teaching music lessons in piano, guitar, voice, and ukulele for 9 years. Though I was a vocal performance major in college, I am still proficient at guitar, piano, and ukulele. I love working with students who play multiple instruments or are interested in accompanying themselves while singing. Aside from teaching, I also dabble as a singer songwriter, occasionally playing around Orlando. I graduated from Rollins College with a degree in vocal performance in 2014. I have been sharing my love for music ever since!
I have been teaching for 9 years and have experience with a wide range of student ages and abilities. I’ve had several students stay with me long enough to progress from the very beginning stages of learning piano all the way to a fairly advanced level. I love watching students learn and become better musicians. Many of my students start lessons on one instrument and decide they want to try another (usually piano and guitar) and I encourage this variety! I believe in teaching foundational music theory and I try to make it a key aspect of music lessons no matter the instrument of study.
For piano I prefer Faber Piano Adventures and have different books I would recommend starting with depending on the student’s age and experience. For guitar and ukulele I prefer using the Hal Leonard method books. I often supplement these method books with outside sources and pieces as is appropriate for the student. For singing students, I have a wide variety of books and resources depending on the musical style. I come from a classical voice background, so when students are middle school age and older (sometimes earlier) we begin learning Italian Art songs in addition to musical theater pieces and English folk songs. As students progress and can handle more challenging repertoire, voice students will begin singing in additional languages aside from Italian.
I take careful consideration of each students personality, learning style, and goals as I approach my teaching methods for lessons. I love working with neurodivergent students and finding unique ways to help them focus and retain information during lessons. I am encouraging of progress and try my best to keep students motivated. I love to teach with the goal of giving the student the information they need to be able to help themselves. At first, students may require a lot of assistance to get through the material, but as they progress, I teach with the intention that they will one day be able to look at a piece and teach themselves without assistance from me. This can take quite a long time and usually requires years of dedication and study. I encourage students to understand the music theory behind the songs they play so it’s about a lot more than simply memorizing notes on their instrument.
