I'm a gentle person who believes in exposing my students to the best music, and bringing out of them the music they have within. The idea is to ease their frustrations, not add to them. As long as the student actually tries, I feel confident they will enjoy the wxperience and learn a great deal. Music is one of life's greaat pleasures and worth every bit of the effort required to do it well.
I've been teaching for over forty years. Many of my students have been successful in various auditions and life in general. There are many factors that enter into that, and I am happy to be one of those factors that helped them on their way.
My methods are not unusual, although I am a bit. Based on the the students experience and ability, or lack thereof, I'll make suggestions about what music to get. Often they already have music that will work, to which I will add developemental studies of various sorts. For example, I like Bartok's Mikrocosmos which he wrote to teach is nine year old son to play piano. Many things can be learned with no book at all, but reading music is also important.
I like to play duets as soon as possible. My students learn by listening and adating to me. We turn everything intopositives so that we're free to perform with confidence.
Our son has been taking lessons with Erling for the past few weeks and we are very happy with how quickly our son is progressing. Erling is patient, kind, and knowledgeable. On his first lesson Erling said, "don't worry about making mistakes, everyone does, just correct it and move on."
