I graduated from Duquesne University with my BA in Vocal Performance. My concentrations were in Classical and Jazz. I have been teaching private and group voice lessons for 5 years. I took vocal pedagogy classes and started with my first student in 2011. From there, I have had many students of various ages in my private studio, online, and at larger schools.
Five years ago, while in college, I took a Vocal Pedagogy class to fulfill my course load as a Vocal Performance Major. During this course, I was required to take on a few vocal students and I still have those same students till this day. I found a deep passion for passing on knowledge to other who love this art form as mush as I do. I enjoy mixing structure with humor to keep stress low and productivity high. If a student isn't having fun and gaining confidence, then I'm not doing my job. I'm extremely excited to bring on students of various ages and abilities!
In teaching voice, I am sensitive to the delicate nature of young voices and supporting mature voices as well. I teach total musicianship, including tonal memory, scales, sight-reading, and repertoire. Each of my students come with varying ages, genres, and levels, so I create personalized lesson plans for each of my students based on theirs needs. I always encourage my students to bring in material they'd like to work on, from school band music to popular tunes they are interseted in learning. I ask my students to plan their practice time each week and progressing as the material advances.
I believe that the first step to singing is confidence. Therefore, I focus on building up my students confidence and knowledge to give them the ability to face performances and auditions. I love working with students of all ages and it is extremely rewarding to watch them flourish as the months go by. Having a classical background will prepare you for any type of music you'd like to play down the road, so I believe in teaching the basics first and then encouraging my students to branch out, according to their own interests. I take an individual approach to each student and each lesson. Every time I see you, we'll review and then take a step forward. I strongly believe in going at the right pace for you and your goals.
