Overview:

From my childhood, I had a desire to take piano lessons. My parents were not able to provide the lessons so I delivered newspapers to pay for the tuition. The amount of income does not cover fully for the tuition but I never gave up. I sometimes practice on my own without lessons, I was able to play all hymn songs regardless key signatures so I was able to play as accompanist at church in age of 12 years old. Music is my life. Without it, life is meaningless. It is all to me. I am very passionated and I want to carry this love of music to my students. I love teaching children and being around them makes me happy. My goal of teaching piano is to make students enjoy playing piano and enjoy music entire their lives. They will be appreciated music when they grow up and never regret that they took piano lessons. I believe that music helps children’s development in all areas of their life.

EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching piano for 34 years. I taught over 200 students from age 4 to adults. My teaching experience began from my university years. My professor hired me as a teacher for the class which we opened in the community. At the end of semester, the university paid me for teaching. This motivates me to teach more students beyond the community only. I love helping students theory, technique, sightseeing, sight readings and performance. I also can help students who wants to get certificate as well.

METHODS USED

After receiving my Bachelors in Music Pedagogy, I studied Masters in Child Education. So I have combined my teaching experiences with what I have learned in Masters program to come up with new method of teaching the students. My lessons are innovative and creative. I use piano adventure series and Alfred series and many more songs from MTAC syllabus. Also, I find some film music and hymn song to motivate students to play different styles of music. I recommend students play some difficult song to challenge them. Once they learned the songs throughly, they enjoyed so much!

LESSON STYLE

Nothing is more rewarding to see students highly motivated playing piano on their own after receiving the first lesson. All of my students are excited after taking piano lessons every week. My goal for teaching is students are able to practice all the songs they have learned during the lesson time, master them before next lesson begins. During the lesson time, I encourage them to fully understand what they have learned so that they can practice on their own. When they master songs, they are proud of themselves which make them to move forward and enjoy music more.
