My name is Eugene. I am a guitarist, composer, arranger, bandleader, and educator. I’ve been playing the guitar since I was 7-years old and consider playing and teaching music my passion. I hold Master’s Degree in Jazz studies from UNLV and I’ve been an adjunct music professor at CSN for almost 20 years.
I am very well versed in different styles of music, from Classical, Jazz, Flamenco, Blues, and Pop, to Rock, R&B, Funk, Metal, and more. I have been teaching guitar for over 30 years and I enjoy teaching all ages.
Besides guitar (electric, acoustic, nylon string), I also teach electric bass, music fundamentals, music composition, improvisation, songwriting, and much more.
My guitar heroes include Andres Segovia, Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Pat Metheny, Joe Pass, John Scofield, B.B. King, Ritchie Blackmore, and Steve Vai.
I lead a Jazz quartet in Las Vegas called the Shapiro Project. The Shapiro Project has recorded two albums with my original music and is getting ready to record the third at the end of 2018. I have received two Fellowships in Composition from Nevada Arts Council, as well as numerous ASCAPlus Jazz and Pop Awards, and an honorable mention in the Billboard Songwriting Contest. I have shared the stage with Sandy Duncan, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Walt Weiskopf, Art Van Damme, and others. I am endorsed by Martin Guitar, Eminence Speaker LLC, Radial Engineering Ltd, AMT Electronics, and Thomastik-Infeld Strings.
The things I like to do for fun are watching soccer, movies, going to museums, and spending time with my family. I speak English, Russian, and Hebrew.

I am a guitarist, composer, arranger, bandleader/manager, and educator. I have Master’s Degree in Music from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and I have been teaching guitar for the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) for over 20 years. My other teaching experience includes teaching for several music schools and music stores in town,as well as teaching privately at my home studio. Teaching, playing, and composing music is my passion! Imagine how different this world would be without music.
For beginners I usually start with Mel Bay Guitar Method, Book One or Hal Leonard Guitar Method One. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I aso use my own book, Eugene Shapiro "Beginning Guitar," published by Kendall Hunt.
Teaching music is my passion! I love seeing my students make a progress and it makes me tremendously proud knowing that I am the one who taught them the new skills. I use an individual approach and lesson plan for each student, tailoring it to the specific student's needs and aspirations. It's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music!
