Experience music teacher of 10 years. My background is in cIassical technique and theory, with a focus on performing classical, opera and musical theater. I find a student's unique gift and let it shine through their music! I build a solid foundation in my lessons, so a student can sing/play/write any style of music and reach their specific goals. I provide all of the tools necessary to hone their craft, from technique, musicianship, theory, and performance skills. Whether you are an aspiring professional or music is your hobby, all backgrounds are welcome! I set high, yet attainable expectations for my students, all while being patient and understanding of the exciting learning process!
I was born with an "educator" mindset, and began teaching early on in my personal music studies. I began teaching about 10 years ago, in 2010, after getting into my undergraduate studies for music performance. I have taught all levels and in many different settings: To-date I have taught ages 6 through 65. I have taught in formal school system classrooms, private music studios, community centers and at a student's home. Everyone has a unique gift in music and I focus on honing this gift and letting it shine through. I build on a solid foundation that allows each student to have the necessary tools to hone their craft, from technique, musicianship, theory and performance skills - and this also allows the student to practice effectively and efficiently outside of our lesson time. I set high yet attainable expectations for my students, with a patience and understanding of the entire learning process.
For beginning students, I typically start with the foundational elements, focusing primarily on technique and simple application into song. I slowly introduce repertoire that is appropriate and can highlight their strengths. For more advanced singers, I continue to build upon the foundational elements and guide my instructions based upon the student's interest and goals. I am building custom lesson plans and materials suitable for the student, so the plans will be unique for the individual. No matter what level, I keep the lessons engaging, fun and with purpose!
There is nothing more rewarding that sharing what I love most and helping fuel my student's passion for music. It's important to instill patience and an understanding of the process - changes won't happen overnight but rather over a period of time, and as long as there is progress is the right direction, that's all that matters. I encourage setting realistic goals and finding ways to consistently inspire and motivate my students to propel them forward in their studies. Each student is unique and I am thoughtful to let this uniqueness shine through week after week.
