Overview:
I am a professional Broadway performer and concert vocalist and have extensive knowledge of singing and vocal styles. I have performed all over the USA and internationally in leading roles. I have a Master's Degree from New York University in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre/Music. I like to create a fun easygoing environment where the student feels comfortable expressing themselves and progresses at their own rate.
EXPERIENCE
I studied Pedagogy at New York University and have kept learning as a teacher by attending various voice teaching seminars and conferences in NYC and I still train vocally with my long time teacher. Since 2006 I have taught voice lessons and tailored each lesson to the individual student.
METHODS USED
All levels of voice are welcome in my studio! For beginners I generally begin with giving the basics of how the voice functions and focus on breathing for singing. Then we ease into vocal exercises. After the first few lessons we move on to singing a simple song. I encourage the student to bring in music they like and would like to sing. I begin teaching every student with the same vocal exercises to strengthen the voice and then we discuss different styles and how the voice can change stylistically but not technically. For children, I keep the exercises simple and fun and focus on keeping their growing voices healthy.
LESSON STYLE
A voice lesson to me to should be easygoing and open, while having a task to accomplish. I encourage my students to enter my studio with an open mind and feel free to explore artistically. We set goals together and progress vocally with each song. I have an extensive library of music as well which my students are free to use to find new material. It's very rewarding to guide a student along their journey to discovering their voice!
