I'm a passionate instructor who loves music and loves to share the knowledge and feelings of music. I started to learn how to play piano with my mom, a soprano singer and a piano professor in college since I was 3 years oldIn 2011, I graduated from Communication University of China in Beijing and I worked for 1 year in a Chinese Entertainment company called CN Live. I was a music editor and music event creator back than. I quit my last job and came to the U.S. to get my master's degree in music production. I'm a composer, a sound designer, a pianist, a music editor, a song writer, a piano teacher. I've been giving piano lessons to students from all ages since the 2nd year in college. Music is my life and I believe it's part of everyone's life.
I started to give private piano, music theory, harmony, music history lessons since I was in college. I've been teaching in both my home studio and my students' places. I've spent a lot time on taking piano lessons myself and practicing piano. I know how to make piano lessons more enjoyable and fun. I have strong song writing and composing skills so I write songs for my students to play here and there. Music is another language system in some way, it was combined with all other arts genres. It's more than just notes to learn.
By giving piano lessons, all kinds of music knowledges should be taught. I prefer focus on both performance skills and the art/music knowledge in general. Homework is always needed because being able to play piano is the goal of the students.I will have my students practice etude, sonata/sonatina,polyphony pieces and modern pieces at the same time. Homework will be pieces selected from these 4 types. On top of that, I let my students know more about the background of the piece, study the composer, study the history and stories.
Everyone who would pay to have private music lessons is willing to learn from the teacher. I will have different teaching methods when it comes to different students, everyone has their own skill level and from different ages. But there are few things I need to say :I expect students to work with me so we can save more time. I will have students play and listen at the same time. So both practicing and listening are going to be parts of the homework. Homework has to be done before class. Students can't ignore the listening homework because that's part of the progress.
