Overview:
I'm a down to Earth, patient teacher willing to help my students pursue their goal anywhere from getting into college, pursuing a career, or even helping someone fulfill their dream they never had time for. I live in South Pasadena, however during the school year I live in Pomona where I attend university at Cal Poly Pomona where I major in Tuba Performance. Despite the fact I play Tuba the most, I also play in the pep band as a lead trumpet. I have received multiple awards as a trumpeter and tubist in solo and ensemble settings. I have studied under many great musicians and have learned a lot from attending masterclasses. If you are looking for a teacher who's willing to work with you to achieve YOUR goals at YOUR pace, then I'm your man.
EXPERIENCE
I've had over nine years of trumpet playing experience, three years of euphonium/baritone experience, and four years of tuba experience. I've taught many students in a formal and informal setting, from one on one sessions to group sessions ranging from two to eight students. I find teaching to be fulfilling and educational for both the student and myself. I have spent these past two years learning as much as I can and I feel like I have a great deal to offer students ranging from a beginning to intermediate level.
METHODS USED
For students learning their first instrument and learning how to read music, I like to spend the majority of the time buzzing on the mouthpiece, breathing, as well as studying and playing easy warm ups such as Remingtons. This way students can build their fundamentals for their instrument at the same time they are developing better reading skills. For more advanced beginners I have them read easy etudes to develop their reading and overall musicianship. For intermediate players I have them read more difficult etudes from books such as Bordogni and Blazhevich. I also have them play exercises in the low register to bolster their tone and range. I often try to get students to a point where we can play duets together to push their reading and ensemble skills.
LESSON STYLE
I am a very patient teacher and I understand that students learn at different paces. Therefore I set realistic goals that the student can achieve and WANT to achieve. By setting a goal they can and want to achieve through 10-15 minute practices over 3, 4, 5, or even 6 days a week, it pushes the student to put in the minimal work to progress and grow to be the musician they want too be or even didn't know they could be. There is nothing more exciting and gratifying than watching a musician grow and become better at playing music.
