I am a dedicated music teacher, who teaches students from five year old to adult. I graduated from Holy Names University with a Master's degree in Music. I started teaching right after I graduated and have been teaching music in San Francisco Bay Area for over twenty years. In addition to twenty years of public school teaching experience, I have also been teaching piano in private music schools and in my home studio. I perform regularly in my annual piano student recital. In addition to piano playing, I also have voice training. Currently, I am a member of San Francisco City Chorus. I enjoying singing in concerts.
I have been teaching piano for over twenty years. My teaching philosophy is that every piano lesson should be fun. For young beginners, I focus on basic technique. The reason is that it is very important to form good playing skills right from the beginning. For older students, I broaden their musical knowlege by introducing piano literature from different time periods. I also encourage them to pick songs that they like to play. My goal is that every student is having fun in each lesson.
For beginning students, I use the Piano Adventure Series by Nancy Faber and Randall Faber. I also use the A Thousand Stories for a Little Pianist by Katrin Arefy. My special methods in teaching young students include stories, easy duets, and singing familiar folk songs. For intermediate level students, I use different method books according to the student's interests. However, I encourage them to play Classical music, which is very useful in developing good techniques in piano playing. I also encourage students to pick their own music. The most important goal is that students are learning music from different time periods, and is having fun.
Since my teaching philosophy is that every piano lesson should be fun, I tailor each lesson according to the student's age and interests. For young beginners, I choose method books that contain fun songs. I also teach music theory through story telling. For older students, I tailor each lesson according to their interests. However, I encourage them to learn Classical music, so that students develop good musicality. My goal is that all my students enjoy music for the rest of their lives.
Fiona is amazing. My 6 year old son enjoys learning piano with her.
