Overview:

1- I am interested in the program because I have dedicated all my life to the social action through music, because I very much value the transformative power of music for the development and strengthening of the community. I have always organized activities such as festivals, workshops and performances to bring the message of music to any sector of the society. I have been trained in EL Sistema in Venezuela, which as given me the opportunity to be in direct contact with thousands of children and youth coming from underserved communities, who though music have seen their inclusion in the society with pride, bravery, hope and strife. Who studies music raises one’s selfesteem, feeds the spirit, grows and develops multiple intelligences. This is why when a relative of a child goes to his or her concert, recognizes the effort through the applause, and therefore, contributes to the choosing of a destiny. To choose to play an instrument is the power of “to play and to fight” to build one’s own ethical project of life, which in many cases it is associated with choosing to be a musician. This is why I feel in complete understanding with the philosophy of this program, and with the mission that I have as a violin teacher immersed in the community. I would feel very honored and proud to be able to help develop your program. 2- My experience as an educator has been to be able to build a system of values through the musical practice such as will, discipline, responsibility, self-criticism, and team work, which are the benefits of ensemble playing, orchestral practice, or being part of a musical project. I am able to mention several examples of community development because I have been a member for more than thirty years of El Sistema in Venezuela. It has shown to the world to be one of the most important educational projects that utilizes music for social, familiar and community development. It is also important to mention notable projects in Colombia to which I have participated as a guest teacher and speaker, these are: Fundación Batuta, Tocar y Luchar, Red the Orquestas de Medellín, in Brazil, in USA- El Sistema USA in Boston, Puerto Rico 100*35 Program, Argentina. Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, among others. They have used the orchestral practice to rescue the childhood, abandoned youth, poverty, and to build and peace zone. At the same time, I can mention cases such as that of Maestro Gustavo Dudamel, who was my student in Venezuela, who was raised in a precarious social and economic context. Today he is one of the most outstanding musicians and orchestral conductors at an international level. 3- My philosophy is “To Play and To Fight”, tight to the wish of “to be” through music. My philosophy and wish go along with the idea of massification, in other words, to be able to increase progressively the programs’ coverage. And for the beneficiaries to be able to live the music, feel it and express it through smiles, ovations, hope, dialogue, and the making of a commitment to be better and to change their own world. And even, to be able to generate a social change through music, to change the community, to generate a substantial and progressive impact through music. 4- To be able to generate a significative learning through effective strategies and actions that keep up the excitement and desire to learn from students and adults. That the beneficiaries could attract other interested candidates to the program. To be able to visualize in the future that the students are able to become great musicians, that appreciate music as a social action, and the values of education through music; and that the grown up individual could appreciate the aesthetic potentials of music so that he or she could progressively help improve his or her mood, health and quality of life. That this person could help generate actions and become a messenger for the children and youth, so that they can have access to a better world through music.

This is fascinating to me. I have a background in music and always wished to study music to earn a Masters degree. My Mother made me become a nurse but I am not passionate about nursing as I am music. I would love the chance to continue music. I have been greatly encouraged and inspired by Dr Francisco M. and his passion for violin. The teaching appears to be nothing but exceptional. Bravo!!!
