Overview:
I recently finished my studies to receive my Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy degree from Sam Houston State University. At SHSU I gained experience working with a variety of clientele including those diagnosed with autism, dementia, traumatic brain injury (TBI), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and spina bifida. I also provided live percussion music with the Creative Movement Program with the dance department at Sam Houston State University. I hope that in the near future I can own my own private studio where I can host music lessons and music therapy sessions.
EXPERIENCE
During my college years, I was a scholarship singer at First Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Sam Houston State University Chorale. Past experiences include singing with the UTB/TSC Master chorale, with which he performed at the Texas Music Educators Association. I have experience teaching guitar lessons and performing at the Alpha Omega Academy in Huntsville, Texas. In March of 2013,I traveled abroad with SHSU and attended a week long music therapy conference/workshop in Montpellier, France. While there, I performed “Esclavo y Amo” in a concert composed of both SHSU students and students from L’Université Paul-Valéry, Montpellier III.
METHODS USED
I think music making is the most appealing part of learning to play a new instrument. This is why I try to make every new concept I teach as appealing and as fun as possible. For example, if in day one I am teaching two notes, I like to have as much fun with those two notes by making a song or a game out of them. In this way my students are able to engage in music and have fun while they are learning. I like to make my lesson plans tailored to each student's abilities, progress, and musical preference.
LESSON STYLE
Every person has different strengths, weaknesses, motivators, and goals. I like to keep all of these things in mind before I start designing a lesson plan for each person. I like to make sure that I am teaching both the ear to listen and the eye to read, so I make sure I can improve the development of both by providing effective sight=reading and aural exercises in every lesson.
