I am a young percussion instructor who started my music carrier at a very tender age of 12, I stared my musical business with the pan-African youth orchestra where I played a major role as the principal xylophonist for 5 year. I later moved to a very renowned group known as the Indegenafrica which was a resident Groupe of the Ghana National Theatre. During all those time as a young professional, where we'd travel across the world on a musical tour doing what we love best. I moved on to the Ayekoo drummers of Ghana where our exceptional play of the drums took us to more than 2/3 of the world performing on big music festivals.
My passion for teaching and impacting my God given talent began just when I started making progress as a professional musician. I am used to teaching students in government established schools where I teach them basic palm and stick druming. After I had gain a lot of recognition as a drum instructor, I started doing workshop and music seminars for beginners, intermediate and professionals teaching them basic techniques to african percussion and contemporary band percussion play with the introduction of mutitasking or what I call seperations on a big stage.
My method of teaching varies from person to person because as individuals, we all have a different way of thinking and understanding to music. But basically I love to start with the fundamental approach no matter which category you fall as a student whether you are a beginner. Drumming is an art an a form of communication. Drumming was used as a communication tool to convey messages from the traditional chief or rulers to the ordinary cities or residents of most of the west african countries of which Ghana is an example of those countries, so it may depend on which style of music the student is interested in. I will say a student interest, will determine my approach.
I believe in job satisfaction and my joy is to see a happy student enjoying him or sher self in my class. I always tell my student " we can't be on the same scale of play in terms of skills" therefore I use easy and fun approaches in teaching which makes it much interesting and anticipating of what comes next. groove in druming is an essential tool in music. Let's use use this scenario as an example: students always want to demostrate their skills in play during a musical jam or concert and as a result of that make the music noisy and makes it less standard or professional. There question is, how long can you keep playing solos instead of keeping the groove? I try to impact to my students disciplined so as to become a good and recognized musician tomorrow
